Is Capitalism an American thing, not exportable?

It seems to me that Capitalism seemed to work well from the time Christopher Columbus discovered America untill George Bush ruined the global Economy. Since bought correlated around the time the New World was explored then shouldn't Capitlism stay in the New World and not try to recapitalise or in some cases overcapitalise the Old World.
