Irresponsible tow truck driver - was my response appropriate?

As I was driving home a tow truck nearly collided with me. It happened when I was turning right off a main road into a side road. I had to stop because the oncoming traffic has the right of way (I'm English so I drive on the left in my country and I was in my country so no dumb answers about what country I was driving in) and the tow truck was crossing the line in the centre of the road and nearly smashed into my car and it was going VERY fast. I honked the hooter and said "For **** sake drive properly" but managed not to put up my middle finger as this would have only led to me getting beaten up by the tow truck driver. The tow truck belonged to a recovery firm called Neil Yates and was the type they'd use to tow lorries and buses etc. I was driving that 3 door Vauxhall Corsa Life that I believe I have described in some previous questions. I would have died if that tow truck had hit me, even though my car has airbags AND I was wearing my seatbelt. Was honking the hooter and swearing the right thing to do? If not, what would you have done?
