1992 Honda VT1100C intermittent starting problem - Battery?

The bike was not starting at all and wouldn't turn over most of the time, but sometimes would. I put in a new battery and had the same problem, so I took it to the shop and they replaced the regulator/rectifier. Now the bike has been starting fine until today when it didn't start on the first try. I tried again and then the same slow turning over / dead battery feeling. I turned off the ignition then waited a few seconds, turned back on the ignition then it started right away. I'm concerned that something else may be going on, and I have a big trip coming up at the end of the month. I don't want to get stranded. Any ideas? - Thanks
